about

Mappe per l’Eden is a musical research project that unifies two of the most significant groups of the Italian jazz scene of the last twenty years: it is indeed the fusion between Dinamitri Jazz Folklore and Open Combo, two realities that - apart from sharing some of their musicians –- do share the same approach to research, privileging the social nature of musical practice. “Eden” reconstructs and elaborates the musical evolution from the origins of mankind, revealing that red thread that connects the music of people and periods apparently distant one from another. Taking inspiration from the genetic and linguistic drift researches of Cavalli Sforza, applied to music by Grauer (pupil of Alan Lomax), and admiring these genetic, linguistic and musical maps that are designed by the migrations of the primitive people, revealing unexpected bonds between cultures and people at the antipodes of the world, we thought a rightful reflexion was due on the contemporary world and on how today’s migrations can be reconsidered in the light of positive signs given by any cultural encounter and exchange, never forgetting that ever since humanity may only survive on our planet if united in this cosmic journey. From a musical perspective we search for those elements that are common to many, if not all sorts of music in the world, using them like cells to develop with contemporary sensibility and actuality. The result is an intense and empathetic music, ritual and cathartic, dispensary of exactly that joint sharing that should be at the base of any society calling itself an evolved one (Francesco Mariotti - Pisa Jazz).
